An open lecture on positive psychology Meeting the Learning and Developmental Needs of Gifted Individuals was delivered by Professor Franz J. Mönks from Radboud University Nijmegen (The Netherlands) at classroom 2509 on Oct .11.Professor KONG Yan, all teachers from Psychoeducation Center of USTC and another 100 teachers and students attended.

Prof. Mönks introduced his individual academic experience on gifted children, and gave the theoretical framework and development path. He pointed out the importance of curriculum in developing children with different gifted and compared the different goal reflected by different curriculum. In his opinion, creativity is necessary in the Identification of gifted children besides IQ. Teachers should find out the positive part of the children' s personality, support and encourage them to think independently. He ended with an example about how a 9-year-old math gifted boy was found and educated.

The whole lecture lasted for one and half an hour. Then Prof. Mönks talked with the students and answered their questions.

Prof. KONG Yan presented a gift to express thanks for his work

79-year-old Franz J. Mönks has been long engaged in the research of giftedness psychological and education as a senior psychologist. Graduated with PHD from University of Bonn, Germany in 1966, he has been elected director of the newly founded Center for the Study of Giftedness (CSG) of Radboud University Nijmegen, President of the European Council for High Ability (ECHA) and Vice-President of World Council for Gifted and Talented Children (WCGTC). Since 2001, he has been the co-founder and editor of International Handbook of Giftedness and Talent; also he was a keynote speaker for the 19th Biennial World Conference of WCGTC in Prague held in Aug, 2011.

The lecture was co-hosted by Foreign Affairs Office, the School of Humanities and Social Science and Psychoeducation Center, aiming at popularizing the humanity education and positive psychology.
